Sports and Recreation Ministries

The Choluteca community is an impoverished area which has never completely recovered from the damage done by Hurricane Mitch.  One aspect of recovery that has been neglected is the importance of organized recreation activities on the health and wellness of the people and community.  Inactivity has contributed to high incidences of diabetes and hypertension among adults, and participation in gang activities by the youth.

The objective of the Transcrisur sports recreation program is to assist the regional church in the development and establishment of organized recreation activities which will have a positive health and wellness impact on multiple families within the region, and will counteract the negative influences of inactivity.  Ultimately, organized recreation will be used as a means to impact the spiritual lives of youth and adults in the community.

The time has come in the growth of the church of southern Honduras where we desperately need a full-time person with the vision and desire to fill this area of ministry. Tim Spetnagel has responded to God's leading to coordinate this new area of ministry. Tim is working at setting up soccer leagues and is developing a leadership team to work with him.
